Morse Code Bracelets

One of my recent “Craftivism” activities has been making beaded bracelets with Morse Code messages. Some have been on the side of resistance (see sample “RESIST TYRANNY” below) and some are more personally encouraging (I’m wearing one right now that says “COURAGE” and “GRATITUDE”).

The amount of text that can be put into one bracelet can be hard to predict as it depends on four factors:

  • The characters needed to spell out the message (there is a lot of variability in the length of Morse Code characters as shown in the image above).
  • The size of the beads being used
  • The size of the wrist it will be worn on
  • How many wraps around the wrist the bracelet will make

There are also spacer beads (between characters and words) and filler beads (to get the bracelet to the right length. Spacers are usually done in a neutral (black or clear) and fillers are usually a random assortment of the beads used for the characters, but it depends on the beads and my inclination when making the bracelet.

Bead Color Options

Bead colors available change periodically depending on what we have in stock and what we can get from our suppliers. It often helps to add one or two alternative colors to your order, just in case we don’t have enough. Rainbow (shown above in sample bracelet photo) is usually in stock.
